The Bombay High Court has quashed the FIR complaint registered against the Hyderabad resident for allegedly posting rape threats against the daughter of Indian cricketer Virat Kohli and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma on social media.
A division bench of Justices AS Gadkari and PD Naik, on Monday, quashed the case after the complainant, after Kohli’s manager Aquilia DSouza granted the request to drop the charges against Ramnagesh Akubathini.
Akubathini is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad. He was accused of posting objectionable tweets against the daughter of Kohli and Anushka after India lost the match against Pakistan in the 20-20 World Cup in 2021 under Kohli’s captaincy.
An FIR was registered against him on November 8, 2021, under sections 354 (outraging modesty/sexual harassment), 506 (criminal intimidation), 500 (defamation), and 201 (disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code along with offences under the Information Technology Act.
He was arrested by Mumbai police's cyber crime cell on November 8th, 2021, however, he was released on bail by a local court nine days later.
Akubathini moved to High Court seeking to squash the FIR
As quoted in NDTV, Akubathini moved to High Court in February 2022, seeking to squash the FIR against him. He was a meritorious student and rank-holder in the JEE (Advanced). He pleaded that he wished to go abroad for a job but the case was causing hindrance to his career. The complainant filed an affidavit granting consent for the case to be quashed by High Court on Monday.
Kohli and Anushka were blessed with their daughter Vamika on January 11, 2021. The couple has been very protective of their daughter and they don’t prefer to share her images on social media. They have also requested the media several times to not click photos of their daughter.
Seriously???? Does an IIT Graduate deserve to study abroad, make a fortune, have a family and may even go on to get a card from his daughter on a father's day in future that would say "My Dad Is The Best".....

Should have made an example out of him but Kohli and Anushka's humility and empathy really won my heart. King and Queen for a reason.

Studying at IIT doesn't mean he is good person. It only indicates he excels at studies nothing else. We need to change the way we look at these guys

IIT graduates doing these types of things is just unexpected. Kohli and Anushka could have easily chosen not to forgive him for doing such a cheap thing against such a small child but humanity has all the secrets of a better world.

Oh what is this law... I just hope the abroad university he is applying rejects him based on his conduct.. Even though Virat and Anushka had let it go, our judiciary should have given the punishment..
