Many of Pakistan’s players have been the butt of the joke for their poor English. Players like Inzamam ul Haq, Kamran Akmal, Shahid Afridi and many others have been made fun of for their poor English-speaking skills.

Another Pakistan player who has been criticised a lot for his English is Saeed Ajmal. When someone informed the former Pakistan bowler that they are being judged based on their English speaking skills rather that their cricket skills. When posed with the opportunity to speak on the topic, he had rather strong words to say.

“Jab mai world number one bana, mujhe bade bando ne kaha ki tu English sikh le, maine kaha meri marzi bhai, mai jo marzi karu. (When I became world number one, some people asked me to learn English and I told them I will do what I want, he told Crickwick podcast.)

Ajmal also suggested that people should talk to him in his mother tongue and not in some other language.

“Agar apko meri mother language mai interview karna hai to karo, aur mai shy nahi hu aur na hi hona chiye.” (If you want to speak in my mother language, then go ahead. I wasn’t shy at all for speaking Urdu), said the ex Pak bowler.

“Hume English nahi ati, pur jo hum kar rahey hai, duniya dekh rahi hai, I am world number one.” He continued, “I am world number one, the world will come to me, I have no reason to go and ask for interviews,” added Ajmal.

“English language, I hate that word,” said Ajmal with the weight of all the mockery he received throughout his career. “If you know English, you are good and if you are not then you are bad, wah yaar,” said Ajmal showing the un-fairity of the ask.

Ajmal played 35 Tests, 113 ODIs and 64 T20I matches for Pakistan. He was also the World's number 1 bowler for a good amount of time.
