Virender Sehwag, the former Indian opener, who was shocked by KL Rahul not taking a review against Netherlands on October 27, Thursday in the 20-20 World Cup, said that the batter must have reviewed it as the replay showed that the ball was well away from the stumps.

For the unversed, Rahul got out for just 9 runs in the Netherlands clash for an LBW and the batter, however, refused to review the same. In the replay, the ball tracker showed that it missed the stumps, much to the shock of the spectators gathered there.

Sehwag, who opened up on the same, said that he told the team management back in 2011 during the 50-over World Cup that he would keep one review for himself. Further, the batter said that he told the team management that he would take the review if the ball hit the pads.

Further, the former Indian opener questioned Rahul for refusing to review and also opined that he would have scored more runs had he stayed there for some more time.

“Ek KL Rahul hai, agar vo DRS le lete toh vo bhi run banaate. Out nahi thi vo, unhone pata nahi kyun nahi liya. (If KL Rahul had taken a DRS, he would have scored runs. He wasn't out, I don't know why he didn't take a review),” said Sehwag on Cricbuzz.

“Maine rule banaaya tha 2011 me, agar mere pad pe ball lagi toh main toh lunga hi lunga. Tum logon ke liye ek hai. Ek mere liye hai, baaki 10 players ke liye e k. Tum decide kar lena ki kab lena hai, maine toh le liya hai ek. (I made a rule during the 2011 World Cup that if the ball struck my pad, I will take the review. The rest of the team had only one review, and one review was reserved for me)” the former opener said further.

It remains to see if Rahul would find his form back in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. If at all the batter fails to do so, his position as an opener, might well in trouble as there are many youngsters who await an opportunity.
