The debate over whether Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi is the greatest of all time (GOAT) among football fans is never-ending. Both are undoubtedly legends of the game and it is not easy to gauge who is ahead. However, Germany's former attacking mid-fielder Mesut Ozil has chosen the best among Portugal Superstar Ronaldo and Argentina icon Messi.

Ozil was recently asked to share his take on the Ronaldo-Messi debate and he claimed that the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward is currently ahead of the Al Nassr striker. The 34-year-old's choice of Messi may have surprised some, considering he has previously picked his former Real Madrid teammate in the same debate on Multiple occasion.

However, Ozil also mentioned the reason why he put Messi ahead of Ronaldo.

"It's a difficult question.. but I will choose Messi, because he won the World Cup." Argentina's captain led his team to glory in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and he was also awarded the Golden Ball for his outstanding performances throughout the tournament.

The former Real Madrid and Arsenal star had a great time with Ronaldo during their time at Real Madrid. They featured in 149 games for the Spanish football club and scored a total of 39 goals. Ronaldo, on the other hand, did not name Ozil when he recently selected the best XI from among his former colleagues.

Messi to leave PSG at end of season

A popular football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Lionel Messi will leave PSG at the end of the ongoing season. This is not surprising given that his future was already in doubt following a suspension handed by the club.

“There are no doubts about that anymore. Behind the scenes, it’s now understood that Leo’s father Jorge communicated the decision to PSG already one month ago due to the project. It was the final breaking point,” Romano wrote on his Twitter account.

The six-time Ballon D’or winner was suspended for two weeks without pay by PSG for taking a personal promotional trip to Saudi Arabia without the club’s permission.
