The game of Tennis is all about rivalries and it has thrived on it. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal had a celebrated and hard-fought rivalry and then came another rivalry which was equally good as the Federer-Nadal one and that was the rivalry between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
The Swiss Legend has had a long-time rivalry with the Serb, and it has been as intense and storied as it was with the Spainard. Roger Federer retired from competitive tennis recently after he played a grand farewell match at the Laver Cup, where all his rivals were present as they battled it out together for team Europe. It was a fantastic evening as the great Roger Federer bid adieu to tennis after one last swansong.
Now, Novak Djokovic has said that he wants all of his rivals across the world of tennis to be present on the day he announces his retirement from the game. In other words, he wanted one last evening like the one Roger Federer had.
“It was just a very touching, very emotional moment,” Djokovic told reporters on Tuesday in Tel Aviv, where he will play an ATP 250 event this week “Seeing his kids and his family, it got me emotional as well. I also must say I was thinking about how it would look for me when I say goodbye to tennis.
“There is definitely one thing that I will wish to have, other than, of course, my family and the close people in my life, I would love to have my biggest rivals and competitors there. Because it added something more special, added more importance to that moment.”
“We played the most matches against each other of any other rivalry in the history of tennis. The rivalry is very special and keeps going. Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to play against each other more times. Because it’s exciting for us and also for tennis fans and sport fans around the world," this is what Novak Djokovic had to say about his rivalry with Rafael Nadal.
