Every Indian cricketer dreams of representing the country, especially considering the high population makes it more challenging. It takes years of hard work, dedication, passion, a certain amount of luck, and talent. Having gone through all the things mentioned in the previous line, 21-year-old Yashaswi Jaiswal has finally conquered his dream of appearing in the Indian jersey.

On Friday, the Indian Cricket Board announced the squads for the West Indies tour starting in July, and Jaiswal, along with Ruturaj Gaikwad, are the notable names in the Test squad. The Rajasthan Royals opener's emotions were running high at the moment when he came to know about his inclusion.

“My father started crying (when he got to know). I have not yet met my mother; I am going to see her in some time. I was out from the morning, had a practice session as well as some other work. I was a little nervous, till the time you do not get to know that your name is there in the team, there are butterflies. But it is a good feeling," said Jaiswal.

I just want to go out and express myself: Jaiswal

Jaiswal excelled in longer format, with 9 centuries,  over 80 average in 15 first-class games. Impressive IPL 2023 performance. He won the Emerging Player of the Season award in IPL 2023.

“All my life I was ready to take any gamble to play this sport. I love this more than my life and am ready to do anything for it. I have always backed my decision. I am excited but at the same time I just want to go out and express myself," said the Mumbai cricket.

Jaiswal was one of the reserve players for the World Test Championship (WTC) final earlier this month and had a great time interacting with the senior players and getting a closer look at how they are preparing for red-ball cricket.

"My preparations have been going good and I got to interact a lot with the senior players. The conversation has been very simple – to focus on my work. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have an incredibly strong mindset and great clarity. They advised me that it's up to me how I take my game forward, I learnt a lot from them," he added.
