'I thought he was.....'- Tim Paine draws light on Virat Kohli's knock in Adelaide Test 2020

The Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 will always be remembered as a ‘historic series’ in the history of Indian Cricket. The series had both forgettable and unforgettable moments for the Indian fans. One such moment was the ‘Virat Kohli run-out’ from the first Test at the Adelaide. The batting maestro was looking in fine-touch batting flawlessly at the score of 74 when he got run-out due to a miscommunication with vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane.

Former Australian Captain Tim Paine remembered the incident on OTT platform VOOT’s latest documentary on the series. The wicketkeeper-batsman praised Kohli for his stroke play in the innings and believed that he was not going to get out. "Yeah, I must admit though when Virat Kohli was batting in Adelaide Test, he was on 20-30, and I was like 'wow', he did not look like getting out, & I was like we are in some serious trouble here. He batting beautifully but then thankfully Rahane ran him out,” said Paine.

The run-out incident is considered to be the turning point of the Test Match as India, who were cruising at 188/3 before the run-out. They collapsed and got bundled out for a below-par total of 244. In the second innings, the batting line up had the worst collapse ever in their history of Test Cricket as they got bundled out for just 36, the lowest total in the last 90 years of test cricket.

Following the run-out Ajinkya Rahane received a lot of flak from the Indian Cricket fans but he later won their hearts with a match-winning century at the MCG in the second test.

The Indian team that was marred by injuries and the absence of Kohli, still managed to win the series and got their redemption after breaking the unbeaten streak of Australia at the Gabba. The series till today is considered to be as great as the ‘2001 Border Gavaskar Trophy’ and the ‘Ashes 2005’.
