Since Deepti Sharma dismissed Charlie Deen, 'Mankading' has once again become a hot topic of discussion among the cricket fraternity. Twitter was divided right after the incident as some favored Sharma while some were against her. The discussion is still going on with a majority of former and current England cricketers have been criticizing the India all-rounder. England stand-in T20I skipper Moeen Ali had also joined the bandwagon.

The 2019 World Cup has said that he would never resort to running out a batter that way. He jokingly said that the only time he would do something like this if he is angry with someone. The left-hander mentioned that the dismissal in question is not illegal but hopes that it doesn't become a common thing. Ali feels that running out a batter using 'Mankading' gives an impression that a bowler is not working for a wicket.

“No it’s not my thing. I don’t think I’ll ever do it unless I was really angry with someone. It’s in the laws and there is nothing illegal so people that do it have the right, but I just hope it doesn’t become a common thing, or something that’s regularly done. You are not really working to get a wicket.

Mankading is just waiting for the batter and remove the bails: Moeen Ali

The Birmingham-born player added that with the other mode of run-out, the players at least need to work on it. However, with the 'Mankading', the 35-year-old believes that a bowler just needs the batter to leave their crease and whip the bails off. He said that he never resorted to 'Mankading' even while playing in the garden.

"At least with a run-out, there is a bit of work that has to be done, and with all the other dismissals. This is just waiting for the guy and taking the bails off. Even when I played cricket as a kid in the garden, it’s not my thing to do,” he added.
