Saba Karim, the former India cricketer, has opened up on Ravindra Jadeja’s fitness and workload. The Indian all-rounder was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 and successfully underwent knee surgery. While the players have been wishing him well, the former cricketer has opined that the team must manage his workload.
Rahul Dravid, the Indian head coach, backed Ravindra Jadeja to play in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 subject to his fitness. The former cricketer, Saba Karim said that the team management must be cautious with the all-rounder’s workload.
“I think Jadeja is such a player who adds value in all three formats. But I think going ahead, not only Jadeja but even the team management and the medical team of team India, need to take a call in terms of his fitness whether he can continue to play all three formats or not and if not, then what is the most preferable choice for him,” Karim said on Sports18’s ‘SPORTS OVER THE TOP’.
This is important going ahead for Team India as the Gujarat all-rounder will be crucial. He has been India’s asset and more justifiably so, the backbone of the Indian team. The star’s absence is haunting team India in the Super 4 round of the Asia Cup 2022.
He brings so much to the table: Saba Karim
Saba Karim further added that the all-rounder brings so much to the Indian team. He pointed out India's hectic schedule and was worried for the 33-year-old.
"I think India plays four Test matches at home and they play two Test matches against Bangladesh away and all these 6 test matches, because India is eying to qualify again for the world Test Championship final. It is very important for the medical team of team India to keep that in mind and manage his workload so that at least he is available for all these six Test matches because he brings so much to the table," he said.
"Now once we get the Test matches kind of sorted, then I look at the big events like the Cricket's governing body World Cup events. I hope that he gets fit for the World Cup 20-20 and then next year it is the 50-over World Cup," he said.
"So, I think keeping these two big events coming up shortly, I would love to see Jadeja play on all these three platforms," Karim opined further.
