The Rohit Sharma-led team India faced off against New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match series on January 18, Wednesday and it was the Men in Blue who came out on top after a thrilling contest as they restricted the Black Caps to 337, who were chasing a target of 350. It was a close game with Michael Bracewell almost pulling off a win for the Kiwis with his 140.
However, it was Shubman Gill who helped the team put on a massive total on the board at the end of the first innings with his well-crafted 208, eventually joining the list of Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. As far as the bowling is concerned, Mohammed Siraj starred with the ball with his four-for, proving his prowess yet again.
Post the conclusion of the match, the likes of Rohit, Gill and Kishan joined together to have a chat with each other. When Kishan asked the right-handed batter about the pre-match routine, Gill revealed that he used to fight with the southpaw as they stay in the same room and how he used to abuse Kishan for watching movies without headphones.
I abuse him and ask him to turn down the volume: Shubman Gill
For the unversed, Kishan scored a double-century during the ODI series against Bangladesh when the Indian team toured the country. The southpaw still holds the record for the fastest 200 and it remains to be seen if Gill could break that in the days to come, given that he has an added advantage as an opener.
“He (Kishan) spoils my entire pre-match routine as he doesn't let me sleep. He doesn't use earphones and watches movie in full volume. Isko main gaali deke bolta hu bhai awaz kam kar le ya earphones laga le. Par ye bolta hai 'tu mere room mein so raha hai. Meri marzi se chalega. Har roz ladai hoti hai. (I abuse him and ask him to turn down the volume but he says it is his room and the rules will be according to him. I fight with him daily). This is my pre-match,” Gill was quoted as saying in the video.
