The 31-year-old English all-rounder, Ben Stokes announced his retirement from ODI cricket on the 18th of July. He scored five runs off just 11 balls in his last game against South Africa on Tuesday. The left-handed batter's decision to retire from ODI cricket caused massive debate on the calendar of Cricket's governing body. The greats of the game like Nasser Hussain and others criticized the governing body for its hectic schedule.

Following his announcement on his social media handle, many former cricketers and current cricketers have come forward to express their appreciation for the 31-year-old all-rounder's courage to take the hard call. Stokes revealed that it was "unsustainable" for him to carry on with all-three formats and thus had to give up the ODI format. He also said in his announcement that the Buttler-led team deserved someone who would give his 100%.

The former Indian all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh, took to Twitter to express his appreciation. In his tweet, Yuvraj said that Stokes still had a lot of ODI fuel left in him. “Well done on a fabulous ODI career @benstokes38! A world-class all-rounder who’s an asset for any side. Retired too soon! I feel you had a lot more ODI fuel left in you nonetheless enjoy the rest of your career mate! Good luck and best wishes,” Yuvraj tweeted.

Stokes was the man of the match in the 2019 World Cup where he scored an unbeaten 84*, consisting of 5 fours and 2 sixes. He almost won the match single-handedly for his team. Stokes has played some stunning knocks in ODI cricket and many cricketers felt that he had a lot of ODI cricket left in him. Needless to say, Yuvraj Singh, himself was an integral part of the 2011 World Cup and he played some match-winning knocks too.

Tributes have been pouring in for the English all-rounder right from the day he announced his ODI retirement. Stokes will continue his stint as Test Captain and will continue to be a part of England's T20I team as well.
