Indian table tennis star Sathiyan Gnanasekaran recently talked about his preparation for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022. He said that he was all ready for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham. In his interview with NDTV, the table tennis star revealed his plans for the multi-sport event. And when asked about being compared to Indian Cricketer Virat Kohli, the former said,
“It’s such an honour to be compared to one of the cricketing legends. Certainly, I am a huge fan of Virat sir as well,” Sathiyan added. He said that aggression was his natural thing and it had helped him get the best out of him. “I have had this natural aggression for me. You know that’s what worked very well for me. That brought the best in me. So I just went with what I felt would be very beneficial for me,” Sathiyan added.
He said that he had improved a lot over the past 5 to 6 years and would look to continue the same. Sathiyan added that being aggressive was always his “goal”.
“Yes, in the last decade, I would say, the progression has been there moving towards that goal and being a counter-attacking player certainly helped me. I had some big wins,” Sathiyan added.
Sathiyan said that Commonwealth Games was a “different kind of a challenge” and India comes out as favourites all the time.
“It’s (CWG) always a different kind of a challenge. Commonwealth games is quite different where we are the favorites,” Sathiyan said. On being asked about the Olympic crash out, the star replied positively.He said that he backed himself and is a player who always makes a strong comeback.
“It was my first Olympics. I did play well. But I lost out in the deciders. A lot of learnings. I have always been a player who has comeback strongly from close and disappointing defeats,” Sathiyan said. Sathiyan also thanked his coach Raman for guiding him. He added in his interview with NDTV that the experience he has gained over the years will definitely help him.
Sathiyan said that it has been great playing with Manika Batra and added that it was “fun” playing with her. Sathiyan added that he would wish to keep up the good form.
