Sunrisers Hyderabad took on the Delhi Capitals in the only game for Monday in the Indian Premier League 2023. It was the homecoming for former Hyderabad player David Warner. The visitors Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bat first on a tricky wicket. Bhuvneshwar Kumar dealt an early blow as he dismissed Phil Salt on his third delivery of the match.

Mitchell Marsh then smacked Marco Jansen for four fours in the next over before Natarajan took him out with a brilliant ball. Sarfaraz Khan then joined the skipper to take the Delhi innings forward, but Washington Sundar removed the skipper as he tried to play with a bit more intent, and then Sundar took out Sarfaraz Khan. Sundar scalped his third wicket of the over as he dismissed Aman Khan within just two deliveries to leave Delhi in a whole heap of trouble.

Axar Patel, Delhi's in-form batter, formed an invaluable partnership with Manish Pandey to take Delhi to a decent score on this wicket. They dealt with the pressure and were able to score boundaries in the death overs. They both lost their wickets at a crucial stage and in consecutive overs which left their total to be an average one. Delhi Capitals finished at 144/9 in their 20 overs which is a fighting total at this venue.

How did the chase pan out?

Hyderabad started off decently as they were scoring as per the required run rate but lost the wicket of Harry Brook in the powerplay when he tried to accelerate. The middle overs saw the visitors come back into the game as their bowlers were pretty tight with their line and length and were getting wickets.

Due to their amazing spin dominance, Axar and Kuldeep got the Hyderabad side reduced to 85/5 after 14 overs and the hosts needed a heap of runs at the death to take their side home. Henrich Klaasen and Washington Sundar took the chase ahead and dealt with the final overs of spin and tried attacking the pace bowlers in the last 4 overs of the game.

Klaasen showed his class and power as he was taking the Sunrisers Hyderabad close to the total as they needed 23 off 12 balls. Nortje, however, took out the dangerous man as he tried to go for the big shot. Hyderabad needed 13 runs off the last over but Mukesh Kumar kept his cool and took his side to a rare away victory.
