The Indian T20 League mini auction will take place at 2:30 Indian Standard Time. There will be a high interest and buzz among the fans as to who ends up going to which franchise throughout the afternoon and how the teams will shape at the end of the 2022-23 Auction.

The mini auction will have the tie breaker rule which has made its presence felt on previous occasions in the Indian T20 League auction. Since this is a mini auction, there will be a decrease in funds with the franchises and so in case of a tie, this rule will be applied. The rule will come into force when a franchise finishes its auction purse in pursuit of a particular player. The cricketer will be sold with the help of secret bids.

The teams who are hot in pursuit of a particular player will be putting forward secret bids via a sealed envelope. The team which gives out the highest bid will end up getting a particular player. The player will be handed over the equivalent amount of the last bid that is matched and the additional sum of money will go to the Indian Cricket Board.

Kieron Pollard went to Mumbai via the tie-breaker rule

“The tie break bid will indicate the amount, payable in one instalment, that the franchise is prepared to pay to the Indian Cricket Board. The amount of the tie-break bid is separate from and in addition to the amount of tie break bid” The Indian cricket board briefed the franchises about the rule.

The Indian T20 League has had a long history of 15 years and this rule has been implemented thrice. It happened for the first time in 2010 where Mumbai and Chennai went all out for Kieron Pollard. The purses for both teams were extinguished at 7,50,000 dollars and the rule was pressed in to service, Mumbai got Pollard by this rule.

Another case when this rule was used was in the same auction where Kolkata got Shane Bond in a fierce bidding war. Ravindra Jadeja also went to Chennai after they snatched Jadeja from the Hyderabad franchise using the tie breaker rule.
