Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been poor of late and the Mumbai batter failed to fire in the Asia Cup 2022. His strike rate has been a concern for Team India alongside opener KL Rahul. Although the latter lacks games under his belt, the Indian skipper has played numerous matches this year. All while India is following a different approach under Rohit Sharma and the team is doing pretty well.

The Indian skipper changed the intent of the team post accepting captaincy and it has been an upward ride since then. The Indian openers have been asked to take charge and fire from ball one. However, in the Asia Cup 2022, both the openers have failed to capitalize on the opportunity so far.

"I will be worried because there is an extremely thin line between good and bad form; your confidence can go down and suddenly the story looks different. If we talk about the Pakistan match, he was on five runs in 15 balls, and there is no hiding from the fact that his bat was not striking the ball well,” commentator Akash Chopra said on Star Sports show.

The commentator further added that openers need to fire and create an impact. Chopra said that Rohit Sharma failed on the same and compared him to Jos Buttler. The 45-year-old pointed out that there is only one half-century to his name this year and said that the batter must stand up for his team.

"In this entire year, there has been only one half-century. We are saying that half-centuries are overrated and not to look for milestones, but if you are an opener, you can create an impact," he said.

"There won't be anyone better than Jos Buttler, who scored three hundreds in the Indian T20 League; he also plays with the same template; then why not Rohit Sharma? Intent is brilliant, but if you have a chance, make the best of it because you have to set the platform," Chopra concluded on the matter," he concluded.
