Hardik Pandya has been having a remarkable year ever since he won the Indian T20 League as captain for the Gujarat franchise in May. The all-rounder is in sublime form and has given vital contributions to team India with both bat and ball.
He was once again seen at his best in India’s opening match of the 20-20 World Cup against Pakistan where he picked three wickets and scored a valuable 40. After the match, former India opener and selector Kris Srikkanth told Pandya that he reminded him of Kapil Dev.

A few months back, on a SG podcast, Pandya commented on his comparisons with the legendary Kapil Dev, saying that he hasn’t even achieved even 5% of what Kapil did.

So for me, it’s people and pundits’ jobs to compare,” Hardik Pandya said on the SG Podcast.
A week before the 20-20 world cup, Kapil had spoken about Pandya’s impact and the comparison to him.
“Even in our days, we had plenty of all-rounders in the India team. In our days too, we had idols, and we used to follow them. It’s good that new benchmarks are being set by young cricketers. It’s a very good sign for a team and I believe that everyone should keep working hard to set much higher benchmarks,” the former Indian captain said.
