Former Indian cricketer and gun fielder, Mohammad Kaif has come ahead with massive praise for the Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara on the back of his comeback to the Indian Test team. The former player lauded the Indian batter as an example to young cricketers.

Pujara did not have a good showing in Tests for the country for a long period and was also dropped from the Sri Lanka series as a result of it. The 34-year-old hasn’t scored a century since 2019 and was excluded from the South Africa series as well.

This however did not shake his confidence and with the intention to get back into the Indian side he worked hard. Going to play in the County championship from Sussex was one of Pujara’s main approaches to getting back to his best. While playing for Sussex, the right-hand batter regained his touch and became one of their most consistent players in the process. His good County cricket performance caught the eye of the Indian selectors and prompted them to bring the batter into the team.

Talking to NDTV about Pujara’s comeback, Kaif said, "You can learn so much from Pujara. If you get dropped, what do you have to do as a batter? You go back to County, you go back to Ranji and you score runs and runs and I mean, score tons and tons of runs. He has done that.”

The former player lauded Pujara as an example to young cricketers. Suggesting the same he said, “He's an example for any young player who has been dropped and how to make a comeback. Probably you should go back to Pujara and watch what he has done in the last couple of months. He has been a fantastic player for India also. And I think he'll play No.3 for India.”

Pujara is with the India team on a tour to England where he will feature in the rescheduled Test match against England on July 1.
