India have made a strong start to their 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) campaign after thrashing West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in the first Test. They will now aim to clinch the series with another resounding victory in the second Test, which starts in Trinidad on Thursday, July 20. Ahead of the crucial game, India captain Rohit Sharma has confirmed that there will be no significant changes in the playing XI.

India came into the tour of West Indies shaking up their 'traditional' Test squad - dropping Cheteshwar Pujara and bringing in Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad to the mix. Kishan and Jaiswal both made their debuts, with the latter producing a match-winning performance by scoring a century in his maiden innings.

The 21-year-old made a record 200+ partnership with Rohit at the top of the order. The right-handed opener hit his second overseas century, while Virat Kohli smashed a well-disciplined half-century. The batting efforts were well-complimented by their bowlers, especially veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who took 12 wickets in both innings.

Don't think there will be drastic changes: Rohit Sharma

The Men in Blue are likely to retain the winning combination for the upcoming Test, with their skipper stating that there won't be “drastic” changes. However, the 36-year-old mentioned that the unpredictable nature of the weather at Queen's Park Oval did not allow them to get a clear understanding of the playing surface. This also implies that, once the conditions are understood, both sides may make immediate changes to their teams.

"In Dominica, we had a clear idea when we saw the pitch and knew the conditions. Here we don't have clarity as there is talk of rain, but I don't think there will be drastic changes. But whatever conditions are available, based on that, we will make that decision,” Rohit told reporters ahead of the second match.

If India are to make any changes, it would probably be in their pace attack. Either Navdeep Saini or Mukesh Kumar can make the starting XI, replacing left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat, who did not perform well in the first Test.
