Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian pacer, was added to India’s squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka on January 3 and the fans awaited to witness the comeback of the lead India pacer in the series set to get underway on January 10, Tuesday. For the unversed, the right-armer was left out of the Indian squad for the 20-20 World Cup 2022 and it did impact India’s outing as they lost to England in the semi-finals.

Much to the surprise of the Indian fans, on Monday, the Indian cricket board revealed that the pacer would be ruled out of the series as the body refrained from trying him out before the pacer reached peak fitness. The board clarified that it was just a precautionary measure and refrained from naming any replacement.

“Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah, who was set to join the team in Guwahati ahead of the ODI series, will need some more time to build bowling resilience. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has not named any replacement for Jasprit Bumrah,” read the statement.

Will Jasprit Bumrah’s absence affect team India?

As things stand, it remains to be seen if Bumrah’s absence would affect team India, given that they would go with the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh. Although one has to agree that Shami would lead the pace attack, the absence of Bumrah might at a cost for team India.

The board is yet to clarify if the pacer would be available for the series against New Zealand, post the conclusion of the ODI series against the Lankan Lions. However, many claimed that the pacer might be back for the series against the Black Caps. India would hope to win the series and set things right ahead of the 50-over World Cup set to take place at home later this year.
