When at his best, Suryakumar Yadav is an entertaining batter to watch. The batter from Mumbai has all kinds of shots in his armory. The unorthodox batter can score runs on any part of the ground. The skill sets of the middle order batter are amazing and that makes him one of the batters to be picked in the Indian team in the Limited overs cricket.
In T20 internationals, Suryakumar Yadav has established himself to be the best batter since his debut, especially since 2022. The dynamic batter has scored runs against all the opponents he has faced in the shortest format of the game. Without a doubt, the 32-year-old has been a sensation in the shortest format of the game.
In One Day Internationals, the scenario is contrasting. While Yadav had a very good start for his ODI career in 2021, he has not been able to continue the good run in the 50 overs format. In 2021, Yadav scored 124 runs in 3 matches at an average of 62.00, at a strike rate of 122.77 in ODIs. But the numbers are the opposite for Yadav since then.
Poor run of Suryakumar Yadav in ODIs
Since 2022, Suryakumar has played 22 matches and scored 352 runs at an average of just 19.56. In the period, Yadav scored only one fifty. The unorthodox batter has not been great in ODIs in the last 18 months, especially in 2023. In 9 matches in 2023, Yadav has only 92 runs at an average of 11.50, including a hat trick of golden ducks against Australia.
Speaking about the failures of Yadav in ODIs, the former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer gave his opinions and said that the batter might not get many chances from here. “He will probably get one more chance, in the third ODI. And that's probably it because KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will return, and he will find it difficult to get into the side. But the way he bats, it takes high-risk options, and he looks to hit boundaries which makes him lose his wicket. It is his nature to take riskier options and he needs to change that especially in this format” said Jaffer.
