The eighth season of the Pakistan Super League is underway and Karachi Kings registered a 67-run win over Lahore Qalandars in their previous match on Sunday, February 19. Kings scored 185 runs on the board thanks to James Vince's 46 runs off 36 balls and captain Imad Wasim's 35 runs off 19 balls.
Opting to field first, Qalandars were bowled out for 118 in the chase as nothing went right for Shaheen Afridi's side. While Akif Javed took four wickets to seal victory for the Kings, it was a big disappointment for Shaheen as the Pakistan star pacer took just one wicket for 39 runs in his four overs.
Analyzing Shaheen's bowling, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi pointed out some mistakes and gave some advice to the left-arm pacer. Telling Shaheen to make use of the bowling crease to his advantage, Afridi said: "I have been observing him and also had a chat with him. I think he is bowling too far away from the stumps. If you bowl from far away, it is a very big thing to bring the ball back in from there. It is not very easy,”
"I think he needs to make better use of the crease. He needs to bowl from close to the stumps. Like we talk about Wasim Akram, he used to bring the bowl back in by bowling from close to the stumps," said the former star all-rounder.
'Shaheen was trying to bowl too many Yorkers': Afridi
Afridi also advised his son-in-law to watch previous videos of his bowling to rectify his mistakes. “He was trying too hard, which is why he was expensive during the death overs. He was trying to bowl too many Yorkers, which turned into full tosses and he got hit for sixes.
Afridi added, “He needs to watch his videos and correct his mistakes himself. He needs to remember the process from the time when he was doing well”.
However, in their last match against Quetta Gladiators, pacer Shaheen Afridi had a memorable night as he took three wickets conceding just 22 runs in his four overs. Shai Hope's 47 runs and decent contributions from others saw the Qalandars post a massive score of 198 runs, which helped them register a 63-run victory. Shaheen and Co will next face Babar Azam's Peshawar Zalmi in Lahore on February 26.
