Afghanistan got off to a flyer in the Asia Cup 2022 as they upset Sri Lanka with a thumping win in the opener of the tournament at Dubai International Stadium. While many backed the Island nation to reign over the opponent, it was Afghanistan, who powered back into the game and won the match eventually.
Asghar Afghan, the former Afghanistan captain has come up with a hilarious comment about his fellow Afghanistan player Hazratullah Zazai and said that he used to eat a lot. The former captain made this hilarious comment in an interview with CricTracker while answering a fan's question and said that he has a large appetite.
"Ye Zazai khata kya hai (What does Zazai eat?)," the fan asked the question. And the former skipper replied hilariously saying, "Vo bahut zyada khaate hain, khuraak ka bahut shaukeen hain (He eats a lot, loves eating).”
Asghar Afghan also backed his team to lift the trophy and said that his team has all the capabilities to clinch the title for the first time. He also highlighted the team's familiarity with the format and said that they can prove their Asian supremacy. The former skipper also opined on the team's experience in Dubai and said that it might come in handy for the Afghanistan boys.
"I still believe that Afghanistan can win the Asia Cup, and I would favor them because our boys are very much experienced in the T20 format, especially when they play in Dubai. The current form of the team and the combination (of players) that they’re deploying are good,” he concluded.
Afghanistan stuns Sri Lanka with a thumping win:
The Afghanistan bowlers were breathing fire right from the start after their skipper won the toss and elected to field first. Fazalhaq Farooqi bagged a three-for for his team as he finished with a spell of 3-11-3, while spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman finished 2 for 24 to help the team restrict Sri Lanka to just 105.
The Afghanistan batters got off to a flyer and Hazratullah Zazai was finding gaps for fun alongside Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The latter managed to clinch three fours and four sixes off the eighteen balls that he faced. Afghanistan, eventually, won the match with almost ten overs to spare and eight wickets under their belt.
