India skipper Rohit Sharma talked about Tilak Varma as he made a sensational start to his international career in the T20I series against West Indies, with the likes of 39, 51, and unbeatable 49 in three T2OI games played in the Caribbean tour. Varma came into the limelight for his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 performances. He was included in the MI squad in the last edition, and so far for the five-time champion side, he has scored 740 runs in 25 games with a strike rate of over 144. As per discussion by experts and cricketers, Tilak Varma can be handy inclusion for Team India in the fourth spot for ODI WC in India starting October 5, 2023.
Tilak Varma is quite mature: Rohit Sharma
He looks very promising. I have seen him for two years now, he has got the hunger, and that is the most important thing, in him, I can see, for the age that he is, he is quite mature. He knows his batting so well. When I speak with him I understand that the boy knows his batting – where he has to hit, what he has to do in that period,” Rohit said
“That is all that I will say about him, I do not know about the World Cup and all, but definitely the guy is talented and he showed it in these few games that he has played for India," he further added.
The Indian cricket team is struggling with the number four position after Shreyas Iyer got injured, while the right-handed batter is still recovering from the injury. It is pertinent to mention that Varma will be in action for India in the next T20I match against the West Indies on August 12. The Hardik Pandya-led side is trailing in the five-game series by 1-2 after losing the first two games in the series.
