Shivam Mavi made heads roll when he put forward some ground breaking performances in the 2018 U19 World Cup. The group which included the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill and Kamlesh Nagarkoti led India to a World Cup win.

Mavi got a 6 CR INR bid from the Gujarat franchise and was snapped by them in the 2023 Indian T20 League mini auction. Now he has got a call-up to the Indian national side for the series against Sri Lanka. The side will be led by Hardik Pandya. He was very upbeat about working with Hardik.

“Hardik Pandya supports every player. He is a great leader. It is very difficult to be the Indian T20 League champions in the first outing but he managed to do it. He led Gujarat from the front and became champions. He is a calm leader but took some bold decisions," was quoted as saying in an interview.

I always wanted to be in the Gujarat side - Shivam Mavi

Pandya showed his astute captaincy skills in the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League as he led the Gujarat side to an inaugural triumph in their maiden Indian T20 League season. The team which had stars like Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, David Miller, Lockie Ferguson and Rahul Tewatia beat Rajasthan in the final.

“As a captain Hardik bhai is very shrewd and a master tactician. He knows exactly whom to bowl when and whom to promote in the batting order. I know it is not going to be easy for me but I am just hoping to get a game, perform there and be a regular for India."

“Yes, I was expecting something around Rs 5 and 6 crore. It is a result of my consistent performances. I always wanted to be in Gujarat because I have heard that their management is very good. Gujarat has Hardik bhai and (Ashish) Nehra bhai, the two best thinkers of the game," Mavi said after he was snapped up for 6CR INR by Gujarat.
