India is set to host Australia in a high-voltage four-match Test series starting from February 9 in Nagpur. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which begins on Thursday, is expected to be full of individual battles. Apart from India vs Australia, it will also witness some player duels - Nathan Lyon vs Rohit Sharma, Pat Cummins vs Virat Kohli, R Ashwin vs Steven Smith, and so on.
The highly anticipated series is likely to be a hot contest given the fierce rivalry and what's at stake. Ahead of the series former Pakistan Captain Rashid Latif has warned legendary Indian batter, Virat Kohli. Latif warned Kohli about the danger posed by Australian captain Pat Cummins, who has dismissed Kohli five times in six games.
Speaking about it on his YouTube channel Latif said, "Pat Cummins has troubled Kohli by dismissing him five times in six games. He may not have such domination against any other batter. The way he angles the ball in and then manages to take it away will trouble batters like Kohli and Babar Azam. So, this is a battle to watch out for and Cummins will be a threat whether the ball is new or reversing." However, Cummins will be joined by Nathan Lyon as Kohli’s struggle against spin is not a secret.
Virat Kohli struggling with poor form in Tests
Since 2020, Virat Kohli the Indian batting stalwart has only scored 917 runs in 20 games at a below-average average of 26.20. In the longest format of the game, Kohli has averaged fewer than 30 in each of the previous three years and has failed to score a century.
Kohli who revived his form after scoring his maiden T20I ton against Afghanistan during Asia Cup last year is still struggling to score in Tests. His last Test ton came against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in November 2019. To win the series India will expect Kohli to reflect his limited form in Tests too.
