Harmanpreet Kaur the Indian Women’s team captain has wowed people with her superb stroke play and her ability to play the big shots. She is famous for her whirlwind innings against Australia at the 2017 World Cup semi-final where she hit 171 runs off 115 balls with 20 fours and 7 sixes.

Kaur recently led the Women in Blue to a historic 3-0 series win on English soil after a gap of 23 years. She scored 235 runs in the three-match ODI series at an average of 117.50. She also had the highest score of 143 from that series. In a fashion show in Kolkata, she revealed that if biopics are made on women cricketers, then more girls will end up playing cricket.

She gave an example of Shabhash Mithu which was released recently. The film was based on the life of Mithali Raj, and the role of Mithali was played by leading Bollywood actress Tapsee Pannu. Harmanpreet said that more girls will become aware of the sport and this will also give a wider reach to women’s cricket through the medium of biopics.

Biopics help the cause of Women's cricket in India- Kaur

Here is what Kaur had to say regarding the same, “Films such as ‘Shabaash Mithu’ motivate young girls to become cricketers or take up other sports as a career. We know how much hard work goes behind realizing one’s dreams. Such movies help the cause of women’s cricket in India. The mindset of parents has changed. Women can now take up sports as a career. There is money and fame if you excel. Acceptance for sports women has increased substantially,”

She also talked about another exciting possibility and that was of her biopic being launched when she was quizzed about it by one of the journalists at the event. She responded by saying - “If there is any proposal in the future, I will think about it. But as of now, I haven’t really thought about it,” added the skipper.
