Trent Boult was removed from his central contact on his request. The cricket board of New Zealand removed him from the central contract as the pace bowler wanted to spend time with his family. The New Zealand pacer also expressed his desire to play more domestic leagues going forward.

The norm to give up one of the formats in the game of cricket has increased rapidly since Stokes' announced his retirement from the ODIs. And Trent Boult has almost traveled the same path. His removal from the central contract might rapidly reduce his chances to play for New Zealand. The 33-year-old might also retire from one of the formats without much delay. Having put his preference for his family over his passion, Boult might voluntarily side himself from the international arena.

Jason Gillespie expressed his opinion on the Trent Boult issue on Twitter

Jason Gillespie took it to Twitter to express his opinion on the Trent Boult issue. He said that most players want to play for their country first. The former Australian bowler added that international cricket must be everyone’s preference in the future. Gillespie added that measures must be taken to ensure that everyone only prefers international cricket ahead of domestic leagues.

“Whether we like/agree or not, the cricketing landscape has been changing for a while now. The absolute vast majority of players want to play for their country first and foremost. There will come a time however when priorities shift” Gillespie’s tweet read.

“A 33 yr old seamer wanting to maximize his earning potential whilst he has currency and gets to spend more time with his young family? Hard to argue with that IMHO. We need to explore ways to make sure international cricket stays at the forefront of everyone’s thinking going forward,” Gillespie concluded in his tweet.

Gillespie’s tweet received a lot of positive responses albeit there were a few negative ones too. Trent Boult might continue to represent New Zealand in all three formats but in fewer matches as the players with central contracts get the first preference.
