Jasprit Bumrah, the backbone of India's pace bowling department, has reportedly been ruled out of the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League and the World Test Championship final due to a back injury. He was about to make a comeback during the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in January, but got ruled and was then expected to return for the final two Tests against Australia, but that too did not happen. While everyone expected him to return in ITL 2023, a few days ago, in a major update on his fitness, it was revealed that Bumrah would be out for at least six months.

The No. 5 bowler in the Cricket Governing Body's Test rankings has been out of cricket action since September 25, 2022, and is unlikely to return in the next six months as he is unable to fully recover from a back injury. The latest update confirms that Bumrah is definitely out of the ITL and WTC final, and according to a report in PTI quoting a source from the Indian Cricket Board, it is unclear whether he will be fit to play in the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup later this year.

"Bumrah has been ruled out of the ITL as he will take another six months to come back. Even then, he might or might not make a comeback. The 50-over World Cup is the target, but that is also not guaranteed," the offical said.

Bumrah's absence will be a big blow for India

Bumrah has only appeared in five Tests, five ODIs and as many T20s since the start of 2022. However, he has played all 14 matches for his ITL franchise Mumbai last year. The 29-year-old's absence, if he cannot recover in time for the ODI World Cup, will be a major blow to Team India's World Cup title chances. The veteran pacer has the ability to break partnerships at any time and excels in the death overs.

However, the latest update on Bumrah's comeback has made fans furious, with many wishing the Indian speedster a "happy retirement".

Let's look at some of the responses:
