The Indian cricket team took to the field on Tuesday to play Sri Lanka at Colombo. This was the third day in succession the Indian team was on the field. The game on Tuesday was the 2nd game for India in the Super Four stage. Sri Lanka, the defending Asia Cup champions, had already beaten Bangladesh. India had opened their campaign with a win against Pakistan.
It was a special day for skipper Rohit Sharma as he was on the cusp of a major milestone. The Indian skipper had begun the day 22 runs adrift of becoming the latest batter to reach the 10,000-run mark. Rohit Sharma had scored 56 runs off 49 balls in the previous game against Pakistan on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma became the second-fastest batter to go past 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. Virat Kohli holds the record when he got to the mark in his 205th inning. Rohit Sharma got to the mark playing his 241st inning. Sachin Tendulkar had got to the mark against Australia at Indore in his 259th inning in 2001.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first on a hot and humid day at Colombo. The weather saw the sun peek out as there were lots of blue skies. Dasun Shanaka went in with the same team that won against Bangladesh.
India just made one change, Shardul Thakur was replaced by Axar Patel as the pitch had a lot more in it for the spinners. Shreyas Iyer was still not fit to make a comeback to the Indian team. KL Rahul after his century against Pakistan retained his place in the XI.
Jasprit Bumrah who bowled well against Pakistan also retained his place in the team. Mohammad Shami was benched as Mohammad Siraj was given the task to bowl with the new ball.
