Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was at his peak during the 2019 ODI World Cup in England. The Indian opener was the leading run-scorer of the tournament amassing 648 runs from nine games at an average of 81, including five centuries. His performance helped India to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

However, out of all the five hundreds, his most famous knock in the tournament was 140 runs off 113 balls against the arch-rivals Pakistan. Now it also became the first video to cross 100 million views on the YouTube channel of the Cricket Governing Body.

The Indian opener was on fire mode as he smashed 14 fours and three sixes during his innings. He also put up an opening partnership of 136 runs along with KL Rahul, who got out after scoring 57 off 78 balls. Apart from that, skipper Virat Kohli also played a captain’s knock of 77 runs 65 balls hitting seven boundaries. India posted 336 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 50 overs.

The match was interrupted by the rain and Pakistan were given a target of 302 runs in 40 overs. India, later, restricted them to 212 for 6 only to win the match by 89 runs and, thereby register their seventh consecutive victory against Pakistan in the history of the World Cup.

India lost the 2019 World Cup despite dominating the group stage

India were among the favorites to win the 2019 World Cup as they dominated the group stage by winning seven out of nine matches and, thus, stood at the top of the points table. However, the Men in Blue lost to New Zealand in the semi-final by 18 runs and shattered their hopes of lifting the World Cup title for the third time.

Now, with another World Cup coming later in the year 2023, that will be hosted by India, skipper Rohit Sharma will be looking to change the fortunes of the Indian team and lead them to become the World Champions in front of their home crowd just like in 2011.
