After winning their first two games, Delhi and UP where looking to dominate each other in the fifth match of the WTL 2023. Delhi defeated Bangalore by 60 runs thanks to Lanning and Shafali, while UP defeated Gujarat by three wickets thanks to Grace Harris. The two Australian stars, Lanning and Healy, were pitted against each other in a contest that promised to be explosive.
UP chose to field against Delhi after winning the all-important toss. Warriorz added pacer Shabnim Ismail in place of Grace Harris, who hammered a match-winning 59 off 26 balls in the team's first game. The Delhi team remained unchanged.
Delhi scored 200+ runs for the second consecutive time
The Delhi franchise scored 211 for 4 against UP in the Women's T20 League. Captain Meg Lanning led DC with a 42-ball 70, while Jess Jonassen and Jemimah Rodrigues were not out on 42 and 34. This was the second 200+ total by the Delhi franchise in as many games and showed that the franchise is set out to play an aggressive brand of cricket under the leadership of the evergreen and brave Meg Lanning.
UP came out in the second innings all guns blazing with their captain Alyssa Healy at the helm and were firing boundaries for fun in the first three overs of the powerplay and then the tide changed as Delhi crawled back as they got wickets at regular intervals.
UP were unable to recover from Jonassen's double strike in the fourth over, when she dismissed opposition skipper Alyssa Healy and Kiran Navgire. The left-arm spinner outflew Healy and had her at point before Navgire tumbled to a wild slog.Tahlia McGrath postponed the unavoidable with a stroke-filled 90 not out off 50 balls, the highest overall score in the WTL to date. It was Delhi's second win in a row, while UP underwent heir first loss of the season.
