India’s hopes and dreams of laying their hands on another 20-20 World Cup trophy ended after their embarrassing 10-wicket defeat to England. In the first innings, they were not up to the mark with a bat as they only scored 168-6 in their 20 overs.

They were off target with the ball as no bowler in the unit failed to pick up a wicket. Mohammad Shami and Hardik Pandya conceded 39 and 34 respectively from their spells of three overs each. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravichandran Ashwin also gave away 25 and 27 runs from their respective two-over spells.

After India crashed out of the semi-finals against England Gautam Gambhir put out a cryptic tweet saying "You only expect from those who can deliver! Chin up boys," Gambhir tweeted. India were blown away by a 170-run stand between Jos Butler and Alex Hales who raced to the target in just 16 overs.

Here is the tweet:

After the match, this is what India head coach Rahul Dravid had to say on India’s loss against England: "Obviously disappointed to finish in the semi-finals. Probably would have certainly liked to go a couple of steps further. But yeah, just outplayed, outclassed today," "They were the better team in all departments really. The score line showed that." Dravid told the Press.

India were heavily reliant on Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli as Kohli scored 296 runs in six innings at an average of 98.66 and a strike rate of 136.40. He had four fifties to his name with the highest score being an unbeaten 82 against Pakistan in India’s 20-20 World Cup opener.

Suryakumar on the other hand has scored 239 runs at an average of 59.75 and a strike rate of 189.68. He had three fifties to his name with his highest score being 68 against Zimbabwe which was India’s last game at the Super 12 stage of the 20-20 World Cup.

India had 4 wins from five games which was the most by a team in the Super 12 stages which included victories against Pakistan, Netherlands, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. This was yet another multilateral event where the Men in Blue failed to go the distance after reaching the semi-finals.
