Naughty Dog president Neil Druckmann has hinted that the third instalment for The Last of Us is under development. This comes after Druckmann said that he now has a concept for the next game.
A few days ago, Naughty Dog uploaded a documentary called Grounded II: Making The Last of Us Part II. It revealed how the developers got inspiration for the story and the development process behind the game.
“I’ve been thinking about, ‘is there a concept there?’ And for years now, I haven’t been able to find that concept. But recently, that’s changed, and I don’t have a story, but I do have that concept,” he said.
“That, to me, is as exciting as one, as exciting as two, as its own thing and yet has this through-line for all three. So, it does feel like there’s probably one more chapter to the story.” he further added.
Compared to the original game, the story for The Last of Us Part II was very grim with multiple plot twists. While many people liked it, there was also a lot of controversy.
Druckmann satisfied with Part 2’s ending
Both the games and the TV series for The Last of Us Part became pretty popular among fans. Druckmann was involved in both video games and TV series for the franchise and said he’s fine even if they do not get to do another instalment.
“If we never get to do this again, this is a fine ending point. The last bite of the apple, the story’s done,” he said. Naughty Dog is also very supportive of its team as per Druckmann. In the eyes of the studio, “It’s always like, ‘we would love another Last of Us’, but if you guys feel you are passionate about something else, we’ll support this other thing,” he added.
