The Ashes series between England and Australia in 2023 turned out to be one of the greatest Test series in the history of cricket. All the matches had thrill, hype, high-level cricket, and crowd involvement in them. It was one of the best ways to celebrate Test cricket and let the newer audience know about the special format of the game. Talking about the series upon completion, the two former Ashes captains, Nasser Hussain, and Ricky Ponting, were asked if Test cricket needed a series like it.

“That's a good question. I think it did, but it does not solve all the problems. The top 3 teams - England, India, and Australia, have been successful and continue to be successful. So, those three teams are trying to push you on but they have also got to keep an eye on the rest. It is not just about the top 3,” said Nasser.

“It is all well and good, me saying on commentary my big moment at Headingley - 'The Ashes is alive. Test cricket is alive.' Have a look at other parts of the world where it is not so alive. So yes, be proud of what we (Big 3) are achieving. But it will be dull if we (Big 3) just play (Among ourselves) month-in and month-out, year-in and year-out,” added Hussain.

Every team, captain, and coach can learn something from this:  Ponting

“I think the bottom line comes down to every board, association, and team. To aspire, to achieve the level of cricket being played here. I think it is what it is. I mean, the last thing you want to see is boring, drawn-out games of Test cricket,” said Ponting.

“If this (Bazball) can prove anything to the rest of the world as far as Test cricket is concerned, is you can play four one-day games in a row and still win Test matches. I think every team, every captain, and every coach can learn something from this, take that approach or pick the appropriate players to make the Test camp a bit more exciting” the former Ashes winner concluded.
