Rajasthan Royals (RR) opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal struck his maiden century of the Indian Premier League on Sunday, April 30 against Mumbai Indians (MI), continuing his impressive performance in the ongoing tournament. The youngster seemed to be playing on a different surface, as none of the other RR batters could get going at Wankhede Stadium. His stunning 124 helped RR post a commendable score of 212 in the first innings.

Opting to bat first, Jaiswal gave RR a superb start while Jos Buttler struggled to find runs and eventually fell to Piyush Chawla in the first ball of the eighth over after scoring 18 off 19 balls. However, the Royals posted a 72-run partnership for the first wicket, thanks to the left-hander's aggressive knock in the powerplay. The visitors suffered back-to-back setbacks as they lost skipper Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal in the successive overs.

But that did not matter to Jaiswal who completed his half-century in the 11th over. The 21-year-old was searching for someone to form a partnership with, but wickets continued to fall at one end. Shimron Hetmyr and Dhruv Jurel also had a bad day at work as they fell for cheap runs. However, Jaiswal batted out of his skin and became the fourth youngest player in the IPL history to score a hundred.

"I never thought about slowing down": Jaiswal

The young lad did not stop the momentum after reaching the milestone, adding 24 more runs and registering the highest individual score by an uncapped player in the cash-rich league. His blistering 124 runs from 62 balls included 16 fours and 8 maximums. Given that the next highest individual score for RR was 18 by Buttler, it is fair to say that their innings was entirely about Jaiswal.

Jaiswal, who represents Mumbai in domestic cricket, currently holds the Orange Cap after scoring 428 runs in nine innings at an average of 47.56. Speaking after the first innings, Jaiswal said:

"When I got to the hundred, it was an amazing feeling and this is what I wanted. It is really special, I need to enjoy it but I need to look forward and keep going. I never thought about slowing down, I know my role in the team, I need to keep going and make sure run-rate is high and contribute as much as I can in whatever way possible to the team."
