A couple of months back, the Cricket Governing Body made some changes to the playing conditions, and bringing the ‘Mankad’ dismissal under the ‘run-out’ section was one of them. Running out a non-striker for backing too far is no longer considered unfair.

The mode of dismissal now comes under the run-out section. However, cricket experts and fans often get into debates over the same. Despite running out a non-striker is considered a legal run-out, a lot of people are against it and often slam the bowling team for adopting such kind of dismissal.

Once again, the debate reignited during a match between St. Bernard’s OC and Kew in Australia’s domestic circuit. Kew opener Andrew Chalkley backed up too far while standing at the non-striker’s end and Kyle Adams thus, run him out via ‘Mankad’ dismissal.

Following the dismissal, the spectators, who were sitting in the stands, made different reactions on the same.

“Stay in your crease, simple”, one man was heard yelling in the video.

“Very simple, stay in your crease.” another man screamed.

“You’re an embarrassment to sub-district cricket”, one spectator who supported Kew, yelled.

Another supported said, “Fuc*** s*** club if that’s fuc*** acceptable.”

Meanwhile, Kew won the game by four wickets despite enduring the mode of dismissal. The video clip has attracted a lot of attention on social media as it has received several reactions from fans.

“I don’t understand why this isn’t universally accepted. If a player leaves their crease before the ball is bowled then they are simply cheating imo. I know it’s not in the ‘spirit’ of the game, but shouldn’t the batter show the fielding team the same ‘spirit’ and play by the rules?” a tweeted user wrote.

Here’s a look at a couple of reactions:
