Former Indian captain Virat Kohli posted a cryptic Instagram story after India lost the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final against Australia on Sunday, June 11. If at all India had a slim chance of winning the ultimate Test, it was because of the solid partnership between Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane in the second innings that took the game to the final day.
Australia set a massive target of 444 in the last innings, and Indian openers displayed their intent from the start on Day 4, scoring at a rapid pace. However, India lost wickets in quick succession and Australia regained the grip. Kohli and Rahane then steadied the ship and reduced the deficit to 280 at the end of the day. But Scott Boland made a huge breakthrough by dismissing Kohli and opening the floodgates for the Indian team on Day 5.
Kohli missed out on a well-deserved half-century by one run, but the right-hander was criticised for his shot selection. He once again poked a ball that was far away from him and got an outside edge to the second slip where Steve Smith took a blinder. A ball later, Ravindra Jadeja was also dismissed by Boland and the crowd then witnessed a devastating collapse of the Indian team that saw Australia cruise to a 209-run victory.
Not the first time Kohli has posted similar cryptic stories
After the summit clash, Kohli posted a cryptic message on his Instagram account stating, “Silence is the source of great strength”. This was not Kohli's first time posting something cryptic during the one-off Test against Australia. Earlier, Kohli had posted a similar story after receiving massive trolls on social media for chatting and having snacks after being dismissed cheaply in the first innings of the match.
Ahead of Day 3, the 34-year-old took to his Instagram to post a philosophical quote, which fans believe was in response to the trolls he received. “You must develop the ability to be disliked in order to free yourself from the prison of other peoples’ opinions,” the full message read.
