India won the series 1-0 against West Indies as the second Test in Trinidad ended in a draw after the final day's play was washed out. After a dominant victory in Dominica, India aimed to sweep the series 2-0, but the rain had the last laugh. India began their 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) campaign on a positive note, but a draw means both teams share four points.

Windies were crushed in the first Test with the visitors claiming victory by an innings and 141 runs inside three days. However, they came up with a better performance in the next match even though India were in the driver's seat for most of the time. The Men in Blue were eight wickets away from a series whitewash, while West Indies needed 289 runs on Day 5 to level the series.

Asked to bat first, India posted a massive total of 438 on the back of Virat Kohli's magnificent hundred and half-centuries from Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin. In reply, West Indies started off their innings well with their captain Kraigg Brathwaite scoring a half-century. However, on Day 4 they faced a collapse, losing their last five wickets with Mohammed Siraj destroying the lower order.

After taking a massive lead of 183 runs in the first innings, the Indian openers came out all guns blazing and scored rapidly to extend their lead. Chasing 365, the West Indies openers started cautiously but Ashwin grabbed two wickets before stumps to put India in the driver's seat. However, rain played spoilsport on Day 5 and ended the game without a result.

ODI series expected to garner more attention as India prepares for World Cup

The focus now shifts to limited-overs cricket, which will start with a three-match ODI series, followed by a five-match T20I series. Barbados will host the first two ODIs starting on Thursday, July 27. India will look to continue their dominance in the 50-over format as well, as it will serve as a warm-up series for the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. West Indies, on the other hand, will want a fresh start after their heartbreaking exit from the WC Qualifiers.
