Ben Stokes, the captain of England's Test team, has departed Chennai Super Kings' camp to serve his country. This is a major setback for Chennai Super Kings, who will play Gujarat Titans in Indian Premier League 2023 Qualifier 1 on Tuesday. If the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team could defeat GT, they would advance directly to the Indian Premier League 16 championship game.

During the IPL 2023 auction, Chennai Super Kings paid a high sum to get Ben Stokes. The franchise paid INR 16.25 crore to get the English red-ball captain, but they were unable to realise the full extent of his abilities, and he was forced to miss the entire season. Stokes played in just two games this season, scoring 15 runs across two innings while giving up 18 runs in his single over of bowling.

England is going to host Ireland for one Test match starting on June 1. After the Test match is over, England will get ready for The Ashes. To join the England team before their forthcoming national assignments, Captain Ben Stokes has returned home to prepare properly for this game. After Ireland's tour game versus Essex, which starts on May 28, the conclusive one-off Test at The Lord's will be played.

Chennai Super Kings announced through their social media accounts that the all-rounder had gone home to play for his nation's squad. He appeared in a photo sporting Chennai Super Kings gear, and they wrote: “Homebound for the national duty! ✈️🇬🇧 We’ll be whistling for you, Stokesy! Until next time!”

However, Chennai Super Kings won't be harmed by Stokes' absence because their skipper MS Dhoni has started the same squad for the last four games and isn't anticipated to do so going forward. Chennai Super Kings will face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, May 23, inside their home ground in Chennai, the MA Chidambaram ground.
