It has not been the best of times for Pakistan across formats over the last two months. They failed to win a seven-match T20I series against England recently, losing it 4-3. They could not win the 20-20 World Cup in Australia and they just suffered a 3-0 defeat in the home Test series in the hands of England. The way Pakistan went down in all three Tests without a fight drew a lot of criticism from the fans and former players.
The skipper Babar Azam has been at the receiving end and questions have been raised about his captaincy and his personality as a player. Pakistan suffered a historic whitewash against England. Pakistan also suffered only their third Test loss in Karachi which has been a fortress for Pakistan. This is the first time that Pakistan has been defeated 3-0 by a visiting side at home.
He doesn't deserve to lead the Team - Danish Kaneria on Babar Azam
"People should stop comparing Babar Azam to Virat Kohli. The likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are very big players. Pakistan have nobody in their team who can be compared to them. If you make them talk, they will be a king. When you ask them to produce results, they'll be zero," said former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria on his YouTube Channel.
"Babar Azam is a big zero as captain. He doesn't deserve to lead the team. He is not capable of leading the team, especially when it comes to Test cricket. He had a good chance of learning captaincy by looking at Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum during the series. Or, he could have kept his ego aside and asked Sarfaraz Ahmed how to captain," Kaneria added.
Notably, Pakistan are playing most of their cricket at home after a long hiatus. They were playing their cricket in Abu Dhabi. Not many of them expected Pakistan to lose in this fashion and in a very fast-paced Test series, Ben Stokes earned high adulation for his captaincy and also produced a memorable win in the first Test on a lifeless pitch at Rawalpindi.
