Former Pakistani cricketer Haroon Rasheed has been appointed as the head of the national selection committee by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Chairman of the PCB, Najam Sethi, announced Haroon's appointment and stated that the remaining members of the committee would be decided later. Haroon, who is 69 years old, was also appointed as a member of the 14-member cricket management committee to run the PCB by the board's patron-in-chief, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, on December 22.

Haroon has now resigned from the management committee as we don't want a conflict of interest as he is now chief selector," Sethi said.

Haroon Rasheed is a former Pakistani cricketer known for his powerful batting style and versatility as a bowler. He played for the national team from 1975-1985 and participated in 15 Test matches and 34 ODIs. He accumulated 694 runs in Test matches with an average of 24.31 and 781 runs in ODIs with an average of 28.03.

He scored a century on his debut test series against England and had a significant contribution in the series win against England in 1978. After retirement, Haroon has been involved in cricket administration and worked as a commentator and analyst before being selected as the head of the National Selection committee.

90% of the discussion done- Sethi

PCB Chairman Najam Sethi also shed light on the appointment process of Pakistan's next head coach.

"I want to make it clear I am in direct negotiations with Mickey and I think 90 percent of the discussions. We have covered many areas and very soon we may give you good news. If Mickey comes he will be making his own team and we will only find how much we need to pay them and this matter will be resolved in 2-3 days," said the PCB chairman.

Mickey Arthur, who had previously served as head coach of Pakistan's national cricket team between 2016 and 2019, saw his contract not renewed by the management led by chairman Ehsan Mani after the World Cup.
