Team India had hit rock bottom after the shock exit they had in the 20-20 World Cup 2021. They lost against Pakistan and New Zealand in their first two games and were out of the multilateral tournament. This signalled the winds of change in the Indian Cricket Team after the World Cup, and Virat Kohli relinquished captaincy from all formats. Ravi Shastri quit as the coach of India.
The baton was handed over to Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid took over the reins of coaching India from Shastri. From then on Rohit has led India in all formats and took India to the semi-finals of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Though Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma shared a wonderful camaraderie. There were a lot of reports that surfaced saying that there was a rift in the relationship between the two.
Virat Kohli's knock against Pakistan was his finest - Ravi Shastri
Shastri has seen both of them from close quarters during his coaching stint. This is what he had to say on the matter "To hell with them. All of this is merely time pass for you guys. I don't have the time for this. Everything is fine. There's is good tuning between them. Everything is first-class. There was a 100-run partnership in between but you guys are stretching it. Keep on doing it. All of this is a very trivial matter," He said to Vimal Kumar in an interview on his YouTube channel.
Here is what he had to say on Virat Kohli’s comeback, "I think in his career, that will be one of his finest T20 innings. No doubt about it, because the stage was that big. It was against Pakistan, the match was stuck for India, so to score runs there under pressure is a big thing. I don't need to say anything. The world has seen it, they will judge it and he will put it as one of his best," He added.
Kohli and Rohit also showed an example of the bromance between them when Rohit carried Kohli on his back after Kohli scored an unbeaten 82 against Pakistan in India's 20-20 World Cup opener against Pakistan which Kohli helped the Men in Blue win off the last ball.
