India’s hopes and dreams of getting what could have been a second 20-20 World Cup title went down in smoke as they suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of England by 10 wickets. India had no answers to a 170-run stand put on by Alex Hales and Jos Buttler.

On the back of this defeat, some people might bid adieu to 20-20 cricket, which could change the entire composition of the Indian side. The next year's 20-20 World Cup tournament is slated to be held in the West Indies. The senior players though have been tight lipped about their retirement plans so far.

Speaking on the same, Monty Panesar, the former England spinner, had this to say on the matter,

"India disappointed everyone (with the way they lost in the semifinal), and I think there are some retirements coming up".

Younger players should be groomed for India in T20Is- Monty Panesar

"Rohit (Sharma), Dinesh Karthik and R Ashwin are the top names who could say goodbye to T20I cricket. The team management will surely have a meeting with these guys and will ask them about their plans...It's time these players make way for young player", he said.

"Virat is in great form. He is the fittest among all the Indian players. Age is just a number for Virat considering his super fitness. You may see him in the 2024 T20 World Cup. I am not seeing Rohit being part of that tournament, DK and Ashwin too (may not be there). There could be more players (considering T20I retirement), but these three, I think, will leave T20Is and focus on Tests and ODIs", Panesar further added.

Kohli finished as the one with the most number of runs in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He made 296 runs in six innings with a highest score of an unbeaten 82. He was in sizzling form through the tournament and hit a vital 50 off 40 balls with four fours and one six, which allowed India get to 168 against England. The latter, though, chased down the target in 16 overs.
