Blue card in football

Day by day football is evolving. There might be a new blue card rule to be introduced in football next season. There are only two cards (Yellow and red) which have been used in football by the referee since 1970. The blue card would become the first new card added in 54 years.

That particular card will be shown to players for cynical fouls. If any footballer recieves that card, that footballer should have been sent off by the referee for 10 minutes. If any footballer receives a blue and a yellow, or two blues, will have a similar result to two yellows, and see players sent off.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) published their protocols on Friday. Premier League insiders will monitor the trial closely and they will likely introduce blue cards into their competition any time soon.

After the announcement of this card, a number of supporters were left frustrated by the decision

Many managers of recent times have voiced their disagreement with the decision. Manager of Liverpool Jurgen Klopp is furious after the announcement, he said "These kinds of things just make it more complicated, If you want to test it, no problem with testing, but if that's the first step to agreeing or already being sure that it will happen. I have no idea, to be honest. I have no idea. (It) doesn't sound like a fantastic idea at first moment. But I can't remember when the last fantastic idea came from these guys (IFAB) if they ever had one."

Head coach of Tottenham Hotspur Ange Postecoglou said that blue card will "destroy football". He said in frustration “One team being down to 10 men for 10 minutes, you know what it’s going to do to our game? It’s going to destroy it, mate,” Postecoglou said. “You’re going to have one team just sitting there trying to waste time for 10 minutes waiting for a guy to come on. Every other sport is trying to declutter. All we’re trying to do is go the other way for some bizarre reason.”
