The English Premier League season ends with a break as international football takes over. Stamford Bridge witnessed arguably the best game of the season take place between Chelsea and Manchester City.
The final score was 4-4 as Pep Guardiola and his side conceded a goal in the 95th minute. Despite their struggles, Chelsea showed why they are a side on the rise under Mauricio Pochettino.
As the season heads into a short break, Manchester City leads the table after 12 games with 28 points. Liverpool with 27 points is in the 2nd spot followed by Arsenal who also have 27 points from 12 games. Tottenham Hotspurs are fourth in the table with 26 points while Chelsea is 10th with 16 points.
Cole Palmer's penalty gives Chelsea a share of the spoils
The Chelsea team under Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t had a great start to the current campaign in the English Premier League. On Sunday at the Stamford Bridge, there was a vibe in the air as champions Manchester City came calling.
Erling Haaland scored the first goal of the game in the 25th minute to give City the lead. Four minutes later Chelsea were back into the contest thanks to Thiago Silva who scored the equalizing goal in the 29th minute.
Former Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling gave Chelsea the lead in the 37th minute. Chelsea’s constant pressure had worked well as they cracked up on the Manchester City defence. It looked like a proper Pochettino team playing with passion, precision, and pace.
Manchester City then equalized in the dying moments of the 1st half thanks to a goal from defender Manuel Akanji. The two teams went into the break at 2-2 as more action was set to unfold in the second half.
Just like he had done in the 1st half, Erling Haaland yet again gave City the lead to make it 3-2 just two minutes after the restart. Chelsea threw more numbers behind the ball as they started to display more attacking instincts.
Nicolas Jackson then made it 3-3 in the 67th minute in what was turning out to be a fascinating contest. The next 20 minutes saw action at both ends of the park with each team coming close to scoring a goal.
In the 86th minute, Rodri scored the 4th goal for City to sink the hearts of the Chelsea fans. The travelling fans were elated as they were now just a few minutes away from all three points. That elation turned into agony when Chelsea was awarded a penalty with Cole Palmer scoring in the 95th minute. The game ended 4-4 and is now being widely touted to be the best game this season of the English Premier League.
