India, who resumed Day 3 at 36/0, are 129/1 at lunch with the loss of one wicket in the fourth Test against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday. Aussies dominated in the first two days by setting up a target of 480 runs in the first innings. Meanwhile, India started their first innings strong but lost the wicket of skipper Rohit Sharma. However, they go well with Shubman Gill (65* off 119) and Cheteshwar Pujara (22* off 46) at the crease, using their feet carefully against the visitors' spin attack.

The Indian captain scored a brilliant century (120 off 212 balls) in the first Test at Nagpur, but since then he was unable to score big in the series like the rest of India's top-order batting. Rohit usually gets off to a good start but always fails to make it a half-century or triple-digit score. It was the same in the fourth Test, hitting three fours and a six with a beautiful pull shot, but fell to Matthew Kuhnemann after a 58-ball 35.

Rohit completes 17,000 international runs

However, India's opening batter added a new feather to his cap on day three, becoming the sixth Indian player to complete 17,000 runs in international cricket. In his 438th match for India, he joined an elite list of Indian batters - including Sachin Tendulkar (34357), Virat Kohli (25047), Rahul Dravid (24208), Sourav Ganguly (18575) and MS Dhoni (17266).

The bulk of Rohit's runs has come in One Day Internationals - 9782 runs in 241 matches. The right-handed batter has scored 3853 runs in 148 T20Is and 3379 runs in 49 Tests. Having scored 30 centuries in ODIs, 9 in Tests and 4 centuries in T20Is, he has been an indispensable part of the Indian team for years. Rohit also completed 2000 runs at home in the longer format of the game in terms of innings taken. The right-handed batter achieved this feat in 36 innings.

At the time of writing, India are 149/1 and trail by 331 runs. The hosts will need a massive partnership between Gill and Pujara to surpass Australia's first-innings score of 480. India dominated the morning session and will look to continue the momentum, while Australia will look to pull the right strings and get back into the game.
