The 2023 World Cup is around the corner with just under a month to go for the tournament. It is an important tournament for India in particular, who haven’t won a global tournament for over 10 years.

The ODI World Cup in India is expected to see amazing cricketing action as ten teams try to win the biggest prize. The tournament will also witness cricketers who are gracing the event for the very first time.

Here are the five players who could light up World Cup 2023 in their very first appearance.

Cameron Green (Australia)

Aged just 24, Green has already etched his name as a very reliable all-round talent. The tall right-handed batter and fast bowler has already shown his talents across formats for Australia. Cameron Green played a pivotal role in Australia’s World Test Championships win as well as Ashes 2023. The 24-year-old so far has played 15 ODI games and scored 302 runs with an average of 50 with just one half-century. With the ball, Green has picked 11 wickets with one five-wicket haul to his name.

Mohammad Siraj (India)

The 29-year-old pacer from Hyderabad has come a long way since his pedestrian ODI debut in 2019. Mohammad Siraj has become a talismanic bowler for India in the ODI format and is currently one of the best bowlers. Siraj has played 26 ODI matches for India and picked 46 wickets. His average of 20 and strike rate of 25 is one of the best going around. Siraj has the ability to bowl quickly and strike early with the new ball.

Yet another 29-year-old who is making his ODI World Cup debut is Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf. Considered to be one of the quickest bowlers right now, Haris Rauf has picked 51 wickets from his 27 games. Rauf has formed a formidable pace trio alongside Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah. The right-arm pacer is known to bowl at quick speeds and unsettle the best in the business.

Shubman Gill (India)

Arguably one of the best young talents in world cricket now is Shubman Gill. The 24-year-old has already scored over 1500 runs in just 29 ODI games for India. The stylish right-hander already has made his mark in 2023 with centuries against New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Gill scored his career-best 208 earlier this year and will be expected to play a key role for India in the upcoming World Cup.
