Only less than a month left at the start of India's campaign in the upcoming 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The Men In Blue will face Pakistan on October 23 in Melbourne to kick start. Talking about the tournament in general, it will start on October 16. Meanwhile, talking about the Indian team, there will be some players in the upcoming tournament who played in the 2016 edition as well.
A lot of players from that edition are either retired or not considered in the shortest format. Also, not to forget, the teams' captaincy has changed two times from 2016 to 2022 in T20Is. Meanwhile, we will discuss the players who are playing in the upcoming edition and played in 2016 as well. In this listicle, we will discuss five players who are playing in 2016 and are ready to go in the upcoming one.
Five players who played in 2016 and will play in 2022 20-20 World Cup
1. Rohit Sharma
The India skipper played in the 2016 edition and is now leading the team across formats. Six years ago, he wasn't even the vice-captain of the team as Virat Kohli was in line in becoming the next leader. That team was led by MS Dhoni.
The Mumbaikar had terrible form during the World Cup as he could only manage 88 runs in five games at an average of 17.60. This time around, he and his team would like to come up with a much-improved performance.
2. Virat Kohli
The former India skipper played in the 2016 edition and will play in the upcoming one. Ironically, he only led the team in the 2021 edition which was a forgettable one for the side. Six years ago, he was the second highest run-getter (273) after Tamim Iqbal (295).
In this tournament, the team will have the same expectations from him. After all, he is coming off a few good knocks in recent times after having a rough period with the bat from April to July this year.
3. Ravichandran Ashwin
The veteran off-spinner made his comeback in T20I cricket a couple of months back. He made his comeback in the T20I series in the Caribbean Islands. However, he hasn't played too many games.
The Tamil Nadu player was the first-choice spinner in 2016. However, things might have changed in the last few years but the team seems to have faith in him. He will play in the 2022 edition as well.
4. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Kumar played in 2016 and will be part of the 2022 edition as well. These days, he is having a rough time with the ball, especially in the death. The right-arm medium pacer hasn't been able to contain runs in the death overs since the Asia Cup 2022.
His bowling has been a concern for the team. Currently, he has been rested for the South Africa series. He might be part of the World Cup team but might play the matches as Deepak Chahar presented a strong case against the Proteas.
5. Hardik Pandya
The all-rounder played his first 20-20 World Cup in 2016 and is set for his third one. Over the years, he has grown as a player while battling injuries. Now, he is currently all good and is raring to go.
He is been doing well with the bat in the recent past. On the other hand, his bowling performances are inconsistent and he will be looking forward to working on that. The Gujarat player is currently rested for the South Africa series.
