The T20 fever is all set to take over the entire cricketing fraternity as the 20-20 World Cup is knocking at our doors. The mega event which is just 17 days away will see 16 teams going head-to-head against each other in pursuit of the ultimate glory.
While the tournament will feature several big names of international cricket, there are many superstars of the game who will be missing out from the grand event. On that note, let’s take a look at five such players who are unlucky to miss out from the big event next month.
1. Jonny Bairstow
Bairstow is one of the fiercest strikers of the ball in international cricket. The star batter was in the form of his life this year. He is the highest run-scorer in Test Cricket for the current year. The 33-year-old has carried his form in T20Is as well as he scored 147 runs in three innings at an average of 49 and a strike rate of 141.
However, the star will not be seen at the World Cup as he suffered a "freak" golf accident before the third Test against South Africa.
2. Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja has been the most valuable player for India for a number of years. The star all rounder has been in the form of his life this year as he scored a couple of centuries in Test Cricket. Jadeja was all-set to carry his incredible form into the World Cup but a knee injury meant that the all-rounder will miss out from the mega event.
3. Rassie Van Der Dussen
Van Der Dussen has been one of the rising stars of South Africa in recent times. The batter has a stellar record in T20Is, scoring 1044 runs in 37 innings at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 128. The middle-order batter will not be seen in action at the World Cup after failing to recover from a fractured left index finger he sustained during the second Test against England.
4. Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah has been the spearhead of the Indian bowling attack for a number of years. The seamer is counted among the best bowlers in international cricket across formats. Bumrah’s ability to bowl pinpoint yorkers at the death consistently makes him a dangerous bowler for any opposition in the world. However, according to reports the fast bowler has been ruled out of the T20 extravaganza next month due to a stress fracture.
5. Fakhar Zaman
Fakhar has been one of the top performers for Pakistan in the past few years. The southpaw has 1349 runs to his name in T20Is at an average of 21 and a strike rate of 129. However, the star batter won’t be able to light up the upcoming World Cup with his big hits as he has suffered a knee injury that will keep him out of action for four to six weeks.
