Chief selector Chetan Sharma has resigned as the chairman of the Indian Cricket Board's selection committee following his controversial revelations that rocked the cricket world. As reported by ANI, the former Indian cricketer has sent his resignation letter to the board secretary Jay Shah, who has accepted it.

In a sting operation conducted by Zee Media, Chetan was caught revealing deep secrets of Indian cricket involving selection matters. He spoke about doping and how players get into the team with fake fitness certificates. While mentioning the ego tussle between former Indian captain Virat Kohli and former Indian Cricket Board president Sourav Ganguly, the former pacer also claimed that he has been maintaining a close relationship with some Indian players.

In the recording, Chetan was heard saying: “The players are not fit but they take injections to play. They are ready to play even at 80 per cent fitness. They take injections and start playing. Even if they are around 85 per cent fit, they will say ‘Sir let us play’ but they are not cleared by the medical team that is where the problem lies. The players always want to play, they never refuse to play.”

“Rohit was talking to me for half an hour this morning. Whatever Rohit and I discussed it will not go outside this room. Current cricketers are also in touch with me. Hardik Pandya had come, and he had a casual chat with me. Deepak Hooda had come. Umesh Yadav came to meet me the other day."

Chetan's resignation is not a surprise

However, the former pacer's current move does not come as a surprise as an Indian Cricket Board official dismissed the credibility of Chetan's comments, saying none of India's top players talk to him. “Chetan spoke a bit too much. None of the top Indian players talk to him. Have you seen him speak to Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma publicly in any training session? He would stand in one corner during the 20-20 World Cup in Australia and no one bothered to speak to him,” said the official.

Meanwhile, another Indian Cricket Board official made it clear that the board is looking into the matter and the secretary will take the final call on Chetan's future. "It will be Jay's (Shah) call as to what will be Chetan's future. The question is whether T20 skipper Hardik Pandya or ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma would like to sit with Chetan in a selection meeting knowing that he has let out internal discussions."
